Military School Reviews
Military schools get a bad rap in popular culture, but in reality, many of them provide a quality of education on par with top public and private schools. The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States includes 31 high school programs, the majority of which offer a college preparatory curriculum featuring rigorous academics, AP and Dual Enrollment classes, and standardized test preparation.
It goes without saying that military school may be a good fit for your child if he or she is considering a career in the armed forces. However, military schools are not necessarily just for future officers; most have excellent marching band programs, making them well-suited for some students of instrumental music. Military school may also be a good choice for students who work best in structured environments or have trouble with discipline and focus.
Due to the local focus of the Houston School Survey, we currently profile only one military school, the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. However, if you are considering military boarding school for your child and do not wish to limit yourself to local options, you can learn more about your options at The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States.
